CURRICULUM

The course is split into three stages (graduations) each graduation follows on in sequence and is essential to the next.

The graduations are made up of ten two hour sessions.

There is a lot to teach and punctuality is very important.

Guest directors from the film and theatre industry shall be invited to take classes. DTD is a vital opportunity for anyone interested in learning and making theatre.

The graduations are designed in such a way that the learning is fun, moulding our team into an ensemble cast. What this means is that everyone develops together, while learning at the same pace and has a respected, equal and valid input into the final production.

Dithyramb Theatre of Drama is for anyone interested in creating and performing theatre; it does not matter what level you are at as everything you need to know will be taught to you throughout the course, graduation by graduation.

Graduation 1 - ACTING and TECHNIQUE

An introduction to acting through improvisation.

Week by week we shall explore the teachings of renowned theatre practitioners, Bertolt Brecht, Antonin Artaud, Konstantin Stanislavski, Lee Stasberg, Augusto Boal, Peter Brook and Robert Lepage in an attempt to understand our craft. Your acting ability shall develop as we improvise themed scenes, exploring emotions and motivations, learning about special effects and working with sound, props and costume. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in improving their acting and performing abilities.

Graduation 2 - SCRIPT and SCENE WORK

We shall be working with professional scripts, learning how to read scripts and analyse them. We shall be learning how to create scenes using script-input and non-script-input. Understanding how scenes are structured and what it is that makes them work, including playwright's intention and audience reaction. We shall also be looking at character study and development, including movement and motive.

Graduation 3 - SCRIPT WRITING and DEVELOPMENT

An introduction to creative writing aimed at developing the group's previous improvisations. We shall be dedicated to script writing, with focus on scene structure and layout. Week by week we shall be looking at our own ideas and learning how to write them into a script format. The highlight of this graduation is hearing your own work read aloud and seeing it develop before your eyes into live performance; with you trying your hand at directing.

LIVE PERFORMANCE

REHEARSAL and PRODUCTION

With the scripts fully developed we shall begin rehearsing towards a public performance. Stage design, props sourcing, costume making and set building are also included in this section. Please be advised, any extra rehearsal dates added to this section shall be organised at the minimum cost price.

FUTURE COURSES
